Discover the State Library at the Rhode Island State House

Do you know about all the resources held and curated by the State Library, a research library in a historic space with collections that date back to 1750? Megan Hamlin-Black, State Librarian, will give a presentation about the State Library’s special collections, including its new online resources, and how the library's collections can be accessed. She will also explain how the State Library provides services to and is a critical resource for the State Legislature.

The Library’s newest online resource is The Legislator Index. Until the Index was digitized this year these primary source records were available only on 4500 index cards. The cards contained information about every legislator that served in the RI Senate and House between 1872 and 1989. The digitized collection is now searchable online and facilitates answers to reference inquiries from genealogists, legislative attorneys, legislative support staff, students and the public. The digitization project was funded by a $10,215.00 Library of Rhode Island grant from the Office of Library and Information Services with funds from the Institute of Museum and Library Services.

This program is part of the OLIS Special Collections Roundtable but everyone in the RI library community is welcome to register and attend!

If any reasonable accommodation is needed to ensure equal access or participation, contact the Office of Library and Information Services at (401) 574-9300 not less than three (3) business days in advance of the meeting or program date. More advanced notice is highly advisable.
