Basics of Genealogy: Tips & Techniques to Support Your Patrons

Obituaries, family trees, and Ancestry.com, oh my! Do you have patrons asking for help with their genealogy research? But you feel unsure of how to guide them? The RI Historical Society (RIHS) and the Providence Public Library (PPL) have partnered for 5 years in offering genealogy skills classes to the public. They have learned some tips and tricks which they are happy to share.

Join presenters Kate Wells, PPL, and Jennifer Galpern, RIHS, for a review of their "Basics of Genealogy" workshop. They will show you how to guide patrons who are getting started with their family history. They will cover both analog and digital research methods, review and compare Ancestry Library edition and FamilySearch.org and talk about how to maximize your reference interviews with genealogists.

If any reasonable accommodation is needed to ensure equal access or participation, contact the Office of Library and Information Services at (401) 574-9300 not less than three (3) business days in advance of the meeting or program date. More advanced notice is highly advisable.
