Pride Film Lecture Series: Moonlight

Pride Film Lecture Series: Moonlight

Join us on Thursday nights at 6:30 pm in June for a very special Pride Film Lecture Series. Organized by librarians, Doug Swiszcz, Ben Hanley, and Siobhan Egan, this film series will feature four films that tell important LGBTQ+ stories.

About Moonlight: A look at three defining chapters in the life of Chiron, a young black man growing up in Miami. His epic journey to manhood is guided by the kindness, support and love of the community that helps raise him. It explores the difficulties he faces with his sexuality and identity, including the physical and emotional abuse he endures growing up.

The film won the Academy Award for Best Picture, along with Best Supporting Actor for Mahershala Ali and Best Adapted Screenplay for Barry Jenkins and McCraney from a total of eight nominations, at the 89th Academy Awards. It became the first LGBTQ film with an all-black cast and the second-lowest-grossing film domestically to win the Oscar for Best Picture. 2016 – 111 min. – Color – Rated R
